Jalapeno juice (with pineapple, kale and cucumber)

When talking about juicing, the first thought that comes to mind is not typically of a spicy concoction. However, nothing says you can’t add a bit of kick to your drink; after all, jalapenos are vegetables too, and make a great juice when combined with the right ingredients. The recipe described below is mix of cool and spicy: pineapple jalapeno style.

This juice can be made with any type of juicer, but since Kale is being used, we recommend a masticating juicer, such as this one.

  • 2 cups of fresh pineapple
  • 5 large kale leaves
  • 1 whole cucumber
  • half a jalapeno (or a whole on if your a little more tolerant to taste) – green or red

First up, you need 2 cups of fresh pineapple. Pineapple is a great choice for juicing; not only is it delicious, but it’s packed full of vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy. Pineapple is very high in vitamin C, which keeps the immune system working at its best, as well as fiber to support digestive health. To support strong, healthy bones, you’ve got an abundance of manganese. Pineapple is also known as a potassium rich food, which means it is helpful in keeping blood pressure within a normal, healthy range. In addition to these valuable attributes, pineapple also contains an enzyme known as Bromelain. Bromelain is wonderful for anyone suffering from arthritis pain as it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. Not to mention, of course, that pineapple adds a great flavor to any juice recipe.

Next, chop up 5 leaves of kale. Kale is a main ingredient in many green juice recipes, and for good reason. Not only does it add even more fiber and vitamin C to this juice, but it is also full of calcium and iron. Like the manganese from the pineapple, the calcium in kale also supports healthy bones. Meanwhile, the iron is essential for healthy muscle function as well as keeping the body well oxygenated. A major benefit to eating (or in this case, drinking) kale is one that makes it perfect for juice recipes: sulfur. The sulfur content in kale makes it an amazing detoxifying agent.

Now, cut up 1 whole cucumber, skin and all (that’s where most of the good stuff is). The cucumber brings a crisp and refreshing taste to the drink, which is good news for heartburn sufferers. The phrase “cool as a cucumber” certainly has merit, and this aspect of the vegetable has been known to relieve painful heartburn symptoms. It’s packed with helpful vitamins like vitamins A, B, and C, too, and can help lower cholesterol. Additionally, there is a good reason cucumbers are a favorite feature in spas around the world; they’re great for hair and nails. Cucumbers are rich in a mineral called silica, which aids in the formation of collagen. Collagen is essential for healthy looking skin, hair, and nails, and it aids in strengthening bones.

This ingredient can be tailored to taste. Add either one whole jalapeno, or just half of one, depending on how spicy you want it. Jalapenos aren’t a typical component of juice, but it has a ton of great benefits. First of all, the heat from the pepper is great for clearing up congestion. They are also rich in Capsaicin, which is not only good for lowering cholesterol, but it also can aid in migraine relief, and it classifies jalapenos as a Thermogenic food. Thermogenic foods have the ability to burn fat, so be sure to include some jalapenos in your diet if you wish to lose weight.
